This one might seem a bit weird. The first part gives you a clue to a word or words in the way a crossword does, so “scrutinise” is the answer to “examine closely”. However, the second part shows what you might get when you pronounce the word or words out loud, so “scrutinise” sounds just like “screw tin eyes”, which is a way of fastening metal organs of vision, which is what you might do when making a tin man. I told you it was weird.
